Before you call us out, a few things are worth checking yourself. These are the most common problems we get called to that turn out to have a simple fix — no tools, no experience needed.
This advice is offered in good faith for common household checks that don't involve gas, electrics or opening up your boiler. We can't accept liability for work you carry out yourself. If you're unsure about anything, give us a call — that's what we're here for.
If these basic checks don't resolve the problem, or if the breaker keeps tripping when you reset it.
If the pressure keeps dropping, there's a leak somewhere in the system and that probably needs an engineer. See our boiler repair page.
If thawing doesn't fix it, or if it keeps freezing. We can look at rerouting or insulating the pipe to stop it happening next winter.
If the boiler keeps locking out after a reset. The error code helps, but we diagnose the underlying cause — not just clear the code and hope. See our boiler repair page.
This usually means there's air trapped in the radiator. Bleeding it lets the air out so hot water can fill the whole radiator again.
If the radiator is cold at the bottom, that's sludge rather than air — bleeding won't fix it. The system may need a flush. See our power flushing page.
If these basic checks don't help, it may be a wiring or programming issue. See our heating control repairs page. If you're thinking about upgrading to a smart thermostat, see smart thermostat upgrades.
If you've tried the obvious and it's still not right, that's when it's worth giving us a call.
